Part 2 - How to use Adwords
More than 200 million times a day people use
Google and its partner sites to find what they are looking for.
Google Adwords select is a pay per click
advertising system maintained by Google. If you use Google you have probably
seen the adwords. They appear as little text ads next to search results on
Google. They also appear on AOL, Ask Jeeves, Earthlink, Teoma, Sympatico and
many other search engines.
Content-Targeted Advertising services are
Google's latest addition to Adwords. It displays adwords on web content pages
related to your chosen keywords. This provides broader exposure and greater
reach for your adwords campaign. Not only will the adwords show on Google
searches and on the search results of their partners, but also on other web
sites such as howstuffworks, weather underground and blogger.
With Google adwords you create your own ads.
You choose keywords which tell Google where to show your ads. You only pay when
someone clicks on them. You have total control over every aspect of your
campaign. Real time online reporting tells you what's working. You can put
limits on daily spending. Changes are free and instant.
The Google adword system works differently
than a traditional pay per click service. Adwords ads are ranked based on a
formula of the cost per click and the click through rate, which enables an ads
rank to improve without increasing the cost. The better your CTR, the higher up
on the screen your ad will be placed. This is advantageous to you, because your
ads are more visible to the customer. Therefore you get more clicks.
Initially this system may be a little
confusing, but once you master it, it is very effective. As your ad's CTR
improves, its ranking in the search results also improves at no additional
cost.
Here is an overview of the process;
You do a search of keywords you find popular
categories, you source or put together a product for that market place and put
the product onto your web site linked up to your merchant like clickbank.
You write small Google adwords promoting your
products. In your adword is a link that, when clicked takes the user to your
web site of the product’s you are promoting.
Here are some notes on Keyword Research;
When doing keyword research you are going to
come up with many words and phrases that customers may use when searching for a
product.
So if you are going to market a diet eBook,
you need to write a list of all possible words and phrases someone may use when
look for information on dieting.
Such as - weight loss, fat loss, Atkins, low
protein, low carb, slimming, diet clubs, weight watchers, etc.
You will see when you are setting up your
campaigns that Google will give you lots of suggestions to what key words you
can use.
The longer your list the better, because the
more keywords you have the more visitors you can attract and the more money you
can make.
You will find that many of the most popular
keywords are overpriced. Don't let that discourage you. You can attract click
traffic for much less.
Most advertisers think too narrowly, bidding
only on the most popular words, which obviously drive's up the price. But with
a little effort you can identify hundreds of keywords that cost only a few
pence per click.
There are always keywords or keyword
combinations that other people have missed. I have even managed to attract
traffic using misspelling of words.
TIPS;
· Try the plural versions of the keyword.
· Try different verb forms - buy, buying etc.
· Try combining two keywords into one without spaces, for example
instead of buy vitamins try buyvitamins. Include brand names and models of
products sold.
Another example, if you were marketing a book
on dog training make a list of all the words you could associate with dog
training because people enter all sorts of words when search for a subject
How to write Google adwords that get Clicks!
· Step one you identified a potential product to sell.
· Step two you did key word research and came up with a list of
keywords/phrases relevant to the product.
· Step three you write the ad.
When setting up your Google adwords campaign,
Google requires that you first write the ad and then choose your keywords and
phrases. However, there is a better way. I recommend that you first select your
keywords and phrases and then write your ads. This allows you to write your ads
in accord with the keywords you choose
Google has some basic adword guidelines to
consider while writing your ad. Your headline must be less than 25 characters
including spaces. You are given an additional 2 lines for text. Each line is
limited to 35 characters including spaces.
You have a limited space so use it to the
best effect. This is not the time to sell your product. This is the time to
attract attention and get the clicks.
The most important part of your adword will
be the headline. Refer to the section of this manual earlier about headline
writing.
But probably the best tip 1 can give you is
when you have chosen your subject, go onto Google and the others to see what
other people are saying and pick the best bits for your ad.
Try not to write the advert to please you,
but think of it in what others may be looking for. Again you will get a feel
for this by looking at other ads. Use eye catching words.
Never give the indication that you have
something for free, because you will lose all your click revenue with time
wasters.
Five tips to getting the most from your
Google adword investment
1. Avoid highly
searched single words - The biggest mistake made when purchasing adwords is
trying to buy a single highly searched word. It may seem logical; as more
searches means more times your ad is displayed.
But choosing
single highly searched words puts you in competition with lots of people who
are willing to pay a lot for those same words.
Rarely can a
single word represent your product - so don't invest in these single words.
2. Choose phrases -
When people use the search engines, they generally search for
specific information or a solution to a specific problem.
They don't search
for 'gardening', but will search for something more specific. Like English rose
gardens'. So don't go for single words, go for phrases.
Go for Relevancy -
not frequency - When it comes to ads, you want to display your ad only when it
is relevant to the search. That's when it will be the most cost effective. If
someone is actually looking for what you have for sale, then that's when you
want your ad to appear. The way to get a relevancy to your ad is to choose ad
phrases based on the way people search - phrases looking for a solution or an
answer.
In almost all
cases, searches use words and phrases that are familiar to them, and not always
will they use proper English, the correct technical terms, or the correct
spelling. For that reason, choose search phrases that reflect the potential
misuse or words or spellings, and choose many different combinations of words
and phrases that might be entered.
3. Avoid the crowd
- Before choosing Google adwords, search each word/phrase you are considering.
Check to see how many ads exists for those words, and also check to see what
pages are shown in the search results. The best word buys will be with phrases
that have no ads - when you buy those words, your ad is the only ad shown -
which makes your ad really stand out.
If the ad word has
several ads, and more ads repeating on the 2nd and 3rd page of the Google
results, look for a better phrase or word.
4. Write your ad
carefully - Your Google adword ad is limited to a headline, two lines of text,
and a link to your site. Not much to work with, but certainly enough to attract
interest and clicks. Your headline should summarize the benefits of visiting
the link, and the two lines of text should include hot button words that further
define the link. To see examples of many adwords, just search Google -and
search for terms related to your product to see how others are using adwords.
